Light Up Our Downtown This Holiday Season
Each Christmas season, neighbors, businesses, and local organizations adopt one of our 52 historic downtown lamp posts and decorate it for the holidays. It is a simple tradition with a big impact. Together, these decorated posts transform our downtown into a warm, welcoming place to gather and celebrate.
Whether you return each year or join for the first time, Adopt-a-Post is a meaningful way to be part of the season in Downtown Martinsville.

How to Participate
Returning adoptees who completed all requirements last year will receive an invitation to renew their post.
New participants may join the waiting list beginning August 1. Posts are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis once renewals are complete.

- Provide payment
- Decorate your assigned post during the designated timeframe
- Remove decorations by the stated deadline

Waiting list opens for new participants
September 30, 2026 at 9 PM
Deadline for early renewals
October 1 – 10, 2026
Waiting list participants contacted in the order requests were received
Selected participants have 10 days to submit completed paperwork and payment

Decorating may begin
November 27, 2026 at Midnight
Decorations must be complete in time for Small Business Saturday
