Each Christmas, community residents, businesses and organizations vie for the opportunity to adopt one of 87 downtown lamp posts and decorate it for the season. It's a fun and festive way to put ourselves and Downtown Martinsville in the holiday spirit.
How to Participate
Sponsors who adopted a lamp post the previous year and successfully completed all requirements of the program will be sent an invitation to renew for the current year. Renewal deadline will be enforced in order to allow new participants in this popular program.
Previous year sponsors who failed to meet requirements will be dropped from the program. If they wish to participate again, they must request to be placed on the waiting list. Click here.

- Invitations to renew will be emailed to previous year sponsors who successfully completed all requirements of the program
- Waiting list requests may be submitted
October 4th, Friday, 4 pm.
- Deadline for early renewals.
October 7th - 20th
- Those on waiting list will be contacted via email on a first come, first served basis until all lamp posts are assigned. Potential participants will have two weeks to submit all completed paperwork and payment. If these are not received within two weeks, you will be released from the program.
November 16th, Saturday at Noon
- Decorating begins
- Join us for a community decorating party from noon to 3 p.m.
December 6th, Friday
- Decorating must be complete
January 13th, 2020, Monday by Midnight
- Deadline for removal of decorations. All decorations not removed will become the property of Rediscover Martinsville.
